Follow Friday, as most of us know, is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and it's pretty much the shiznit. (is that how you spell that? I must remember that slang is not my thing)
The question this week was: Do you judge a book by it's cover?
I am not quite ashamed to say...yes...yes I do. I hate to say it but in this day and age, a good cover shouldn't be that hard to come by, and for some reason, while this may not make sense to all of you, books with not so great covers remind me of books with not so great editing. It's just the way that it's worked out for me in the last year or so.
Kaylee and I just answered this question, in our Dynamic Book Duo video (which you can see here) and we both agree, the cover is more important than we're taught it is suppose to be!
Who DOESN'T??

Hopping through. You're right. There's lots of good covers. It makes the bad ones stand out more.

Just stopping on by on FF. I've finally stopped denying that I do judge books by their covers, although I wouldn't pass on a book just because I didn't like the cover.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharyla! New follower here. Would love for you to follow me. Nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
Happy Follow Friday!!!

I think that is an interesting take. I think of it like songwriting. Great song writers want their songs song by popular singers. So a person who may want a great cover/design may not get it because the designer doesn't want them. Does that make sense? I think it is such a complicated thing. For the author starting off it might be a bit complicated. I think everyone judges books by its cover though. At least a bit.
ReplyDeleteA good cover will get the book picked up more often than a poorly done cover regardless of the story. Great answer! I'm a new follower. My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews
ReplyDeleteI think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.
ReplyDeleteI expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net
