On My Wishlist

It's finally, wonderfully, awesomely Saturday! I'm psyched about Saturday beacause I work the normal 9-5 Mon-Fri. For those of you that don't, I promise to try to keep my Saturday full of fun and happy for you all. I'll be thinking of you....Just remember, when you all have a random Wednesday off, I'll need you to be thinking of me.

I'm also excited about Saturday because it's On My Wishlist Saturday. It's a fun, and great meme hosted by Book Chick City every week. Since I have this GIANT wishlist on Paperbackswap.com I'm able to keep this all pretty fresh for you.

Last week one of the books I featured was Married with Zombies, I was number one in line to get it, and it's already on it's way!! I just wanted to share that piece of happy with you all.

On to the books!!

Await Your Reply by Dan Choan
From Paperbackswap:
The lives of three strangers interconnect in unforeseen ways--and with unexpected consequences--in acclaimed author Dan Chaon’s gripping, brilliantly written new novel. — Longing to get on with his life, Miles Cheshire nevertheless can’t stop searching for his troubled twin brother, Hayden, who has been missing for ten years. Hayden h... more »as covered his tracks skillfully, moving stealthily from place to place, managing along the way to hold down various jobs and seem, to the people he meets, entirely normal. But some version of the truth is always concealed.

A few days after graduating from high school, Lucy Lattimore sneaks away from the small town of Pompey, Ohio, with her charismatic former history teacher. They arrive in Nebraska, in the middle of nowhere, at a long-deserted motel next to a dried-up reservoir, to figure out the next move on their path to a new life. But soon Lucy begins to feel quietly uneasy.

My whole life is a lie, thinks Ryan Schuyler, who has recently learned some shocking news. In response, he walks off the Northwestern University campus, hops on a bus, and breaks loose from his existence, which suddenly seems abstract and tenuous. Presumed dead, Ryan decides to remake himself--through unconventional and precarious means.

Await Your Reply is a literary masterwork with the momentum of a thriller, an unforgettable novel in which pasts are invented and reinvented and the future is both seductively uncharted and perilously unmoored.

I added Await Your Reply to my wishlist on March 15, 2010 and am number 149 of 239 waiting for the book.

Benny and Shrimp by Katarina Mazetti
From Paperbackswap:
Why is it so impossible to get a relationship to work between two mature single people, driven by an enormous longing and loudly ticking biological clocks? Especially when they are struck by a totally unexpected passion when they first meet? — In alternate chapters Benny and "Shrimp" tell the story of a love that started by mistake in a village ... more »cemetery, a love that should not really be as complicated as it seems. She is a childless young widow with a sharp intellect and a home so tidy that even her jam jars are in alphabetical order. He is a gentle, overworked milk farmer, a reluctant loner, who fears becoming the village's old bachelor. The attraction between them is powerful. But how will she learn to accept that he falls asleep at the opera and has a house full of his mother's embroidered wall hangings, and how could he ever feel at home in her minimalist apartment, bare as a dentist's waiting room?

I added Benny and Shrimp to my wishlist on March 15, 2010 and am number 1 of 3 waiting for the book.

Deaf Sentence by David Lodge
From Paperbackswap.com

A witty, tender novel about the travails of old middle age, from a Booker finalist — Desmond Bates is a recently retired linguistics professor vexed by his encroaching deafness and at loose ends in his personal life. Without the purposeful routine of the academic year, he finds his role reduced to that of escort and house-husband while his... more » wife's late-flowering career as the owner of a home design store flourishes. The monotony of his days is relieved only by wearisome journeys to London to check on the welfare of his querulous, elderly father, an ex-dance musician.

But these discontents are nothing compared to the affliction of hearing loss, which is a constant source of domestic friction and social embarrassment. It is through his deafness that Desmond inadvertently gets involved with a young woman who seeks his support in matters academic and not so academic; and whose wayward and unpredictable behavior threatens to destabilize his life completely.

Deaf Sentence is a funny, moving account of one man's effort to come to terms with deafness and death, aging and mortality, the comedy and tragedy of human life

I added Deaf Sentence to my wishlist on March 15, 2010 and am number 7 of 12 waiting for the book!
